Once again I found myself at Northampton Valley Country Club in Richboro on Saturday night. (Love them!) This time, it was for Michael & Meghan's wedding, and let me tell you, they were a COOL couple. The setup consisted of 10 of our new battery operated LED up lights, and some basic dance floor lighting. They produced a very cool bridal party choregraphed entrance to the Glee remake of Marry you, and danced their first Everything by Michael Buble.

They added an extra hour onto the reception, and YES, they danced right to the final song. Everything from pop, rock, old school, hip-hop, motown, oldies and even some funk. Very fun crowd! Take a look at a couple quick clips.

One of my favorite facts about the evening was the fact that they had NEVER slow danced together before this day. I thought that was cute. I guess by looking below we've fixed that situation. :-)

I haven't been to the venue since 2007, and I was super excited to play there last night. Before I tell you about Molly & Ed's Wedding, check out the story behind the Philadelphia Cricket Club.

The History of the Philadelphia Cricket Club

Founded in 1854, The Philadelphia Cricket Club is one of the oldest clubs in the country devoted to the playing of games. As the name indicates, the Club was formed by a group of young men of English descent who had played the game while students at the University of Pennsylvania. With the wish to continue to play together after their graduation, they formed the Club under the leadership of William Roach Wistar. 
 
If long on enthusiasm for the game they were short on funds and for the first thirty years of their existence they did not own their own property. They would meet and play Cricket on any ground available and thus they "wandered" from Camden, New Jersey, to Frankford to Chestnut Hill to Nicetown playing against teams who could provide a "home pitch." 
 
The Club's colors, red, black and gold, were in fact adopted from one of the most famous English teams, Zingari, also known as "The Gypsies", because they too "wandered" from pitch to pitch in search of a game. 
 
In 1883, The Club "came home" to Chestnut Hill through the generosity of a benefactor, Henry H. Houston who arranged for them to settle down at The Club's present location on West Willow Grove Avenue in the St. Martin's section of Chestnut Hill. 
 
Shortly after, other games and amusements were added. The Club was one of the founding members of the American Lawn Tennis Association in 1881. When a National Women's Tennis Championship was inaugurated in 1887, the event was conducted at The Club and held there annually until, in 1921, the championship was moved to Forest Hills, New York. 
 
Additionally, one of the highlights of the year, The Philadelphia Horse Show was held for many years on the grounds of The Club. Today, that show is held annually at the Devon Horse Show grounds. 
 
When the Golf Association of Philadelphia was organized in 1897, The Club was one of four founding members. The nine-hole course was built in 1895 and a new eighteen-hole course in 1897. The old eighteen-hole course, known as St. Martin's and now reduced to a pleasant nine-hole layout, hosted the United States Open Championships in 1907 and 1910. 
 
Because The Club did not own the grounds on which the golf course was built, a large tract of land was purchased in 1920. A new championship course was constructed in Flourtown, which opened for play in 1922. Over the years, it has hosted numerous city and state championships. 
 
Today at St. Martin's, The Club provides facilities for tennis, squash, swimming and paddle tennis. At Flourtown, in addition to golf, a private shooting preserve is maintained. A comprehensive program in all sports is provided for members. 
 
The game of Cricket was disbanded in 1924 but was revitalized in 1998 by the Director of Tennis who grew up in New Zealand where Cricket is popular.

It's no mistake that two of my best friends got married there and raved about it. It's not a coincidence that my sister is tying the knot there this summer. It wasn't by accident that I hosted a big new years eve event this year for a bunch of crazy and funky Council Rock moms, my high school Alma Mater.  It was no fluke that I pitched in a 79 yard eagle on the 6th hole ... well, that was a fluke, but don't tell anyone, as my golf game is awful.

The history of the William Penn Inn stretches back to the origins of country hospitality in Penn’s Woods, the colony founded by William Penn. In the 1700’s, William Penn and his 22-year-old daughter, Letitia, rode up from Philadelphia to visit and worship with Gwynedd Friends (Quakers). A public house was established on that site in 1714 to provide hearty food, refreshing drink and comfortable lodging, which made travel possible between Penn’s “greene country towne” of Philadelphia and the many smaller towns scattered north and west of the city.

The William Penn Inn sits on part of a 1,034 acre tract patented to Robert Evans, who is thought to be the brother of Thomas Evans, a man who owned a log cabin along the Native Americans’ well-traveled Maxatawny Trail (later known as Sumneytown Pike), near the Gwynedd Friends’ meetinghouse.

After the land was passed down through the Evans family and later sold, David Acuff secured a license in 1827 to operate the inn as a tavern, appointing it the “William Penn Hotel” to pay homage to the historic visitor and founder of Pennsylvania.

Although new forms of travel helped make the old public house unnecessary, the William Penn Inn was one of the few area hostels to remain active. In 1900, Algernon “Jerry” Yothers leased the inn from the Acuff estate and implemented extensive renovations. He built stables that boasted “pure artisan well water and electric lights,” according to the newspapers of the time. He also built a third story and added a two-story porch, dramatically changing the face of the tavern.

In 1920, Nicholas deWilde bought the inn and reopened it with a gala celebration. Drawing from his experience traveling abroad, deWilde based the foundation for his new restaurant on his passion for the service and surroundings offered in London’s gentlemen’s clubs. It was deWilde who collected and framed many of the old photos and mementos that are still displayed at the William Penn Inn today.

The Kubach family took over the inn in 1977 and later sold it to Peter R. Friedrich, who has been the proud owner since 1981. With his European training and background, Friedrich brought the renowned landmark into the 21st Century as the oldest continually-operated country inn in Pennsylvania.

So I had the chance to party with my buddy Anthony and a really cool family. It was Max & Noah's B'nai Mitzvah. They had the service on location (yeah .. Friday night Mitzvah), and we partied out until 11PM. My favorite part was when we played the #Selfie Song. LOL! I instructed the kids to grab their phones, and we all took photos together. Spring Mill Country Club, located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, is a private club that has an 18-hole championship golf course along with a magnificent clubhouse and a separate banquet facility.

In addition to these amenities, Spring Mill also has an athletic club, swimming pool, an 18-hole pitch and putt course, lighted practice range, and mini-golf. Originally, the Spring Mill property was named Heuscher Farm, a “truck farm” that grew vegetables. This prime location of 186 acres was purchased by a group of people that were members of Whitemarsh CC in Pennsylvania and members of Laurel Oaks CC in New Jersey.

In 1968, the stockholders proudly opened their public golf course and named it Bryn Llawen GC. In addition to the championship golf course, the 18-hole pitch and putt course, practice range, and mini-golf were opened as well. During this time, Mr. and Mrs. Hap Carr, long time Montgomery County residents, became business partners. In 1972, Hap Carr became president and he renamed the golf course High Point GC because the 16th tee was the highest point of elevation in Bucks County.

High Point GC and the entire property were sold to Peter DePaul in 1986, who is still the owner today. He changed the name to Spring Mill and the club became a private facility as it is now. Today the golf course has undergone many changes since the DePaul family has been managing Spring Mill Country Club. Cart paths from tee to green now wind their way through the golf course, five ponds with fountains in the middle have been added, beautiful plant life and colorful flowers enhance the landscaping that surrounds the tees and greens, and over 600 planted blossoming trees provide definition to the once wide open golf course.

Spring Mill is a par 72 course and is known for its long length from the Championship back tees, which measure 7320 yards. The Blue tees measure a comfortable 6626 yards, White tees 6289 yards, and the Red tees 5589 yards.

Spring Mill has hosted many golf championships over the years. The Sandiego Open originally was scheduled here. In 1994, the Trenton District held its J. Willard Hoffman Amateur Match Play Championship at Spring Mill. In addition, the Golf Association of Philadelphia has seen several of its events played over the beautiful landscaped golf course of Spring Mill Country Club.

After the high of Friday, Anthony and I, once again, had the chance to party with another really cool family. It was time for Samantha's Bat Mitzvah. I broke out one of my favorite activities of all time, the cup stacking game (pictured below). The theme (pictured) above was beachy, and made me realize that summer is JUST around the corner. I really think they had a nice time. Thanks for having us.

Have you ever just walked into a venue and went WHOA!!!! That's what happened to me this past weekend. I walked into the Lake House Inn and my jaw just dropped. It was a venue I never had a chance to work in, and after 21 years, it was definitely worth the wait. 

Let me tell you, or let THEM tell you, about the Lake House Inn. 

Originally built as an Inn and stage coach stop in the late 1700′s this historic structure has, over the last 200 years, served as a U.S Post Office, general store, and most recently, restaurant. A complete renovation and addition in 2007 has brought this grand structure full circle.

Located on one of the oldest and most historically significant roads of early America, The Lake House Inn is surrounded by the 5,283 acre Nockamixon State Park and perched on the shoreline of the 1,450 acre Lake Nockamixon. Boasting one of the most beautiful sites in Bucks County, the Inn, overlooks the Lake and its main tributary the Tohickon Creek.

Complimenting the Inn’s 200 year history, the AIA award winning architecture and interior design is decidedly contemporary. The LHI is a top choice for NYC and Philadelphia couples who prefer a destination style wedding.

OK ... now pair the venue with an absolutely AWESOME couple, and I just made myself a memory that can never be lost in time. First, they picked Welcome To The Jungle as there grand entrance song for the entire bridal party. I LOVE Guns N' Roses. They chose Now That We Found Love for their grand entrance song. Heavy D's old school jam is an anthem. And the good times just rolled on from there. It was one of those events that was effortless, stress free, and ridiculously intimate, cover to cover. And the staff was awesome. So polite, so accommodating, so sincere. 

And the food.... AHHHHH!!! Outstanding! Totally lived up to the billing. Check out this photo!

With all the snow we've gotten these past three months, who in their right mind wants to chance booking a winter wedding (or any event for that matter) next year between December and March? Well, have no fear, because El Nino is here. 

What is El Nino?

Brian Kahn recently released this story:

For West Coasters sick of the ridiculously resilient ridge of high pressure and East Coasters tired of hearing about thepolar vortex, get ready for a new climate phenomenon to dominate headlines. El Niño could be making a return this fall after a 4-year hiatus, changing rainfall and temperature patterns across the world. It could even boost the odds of 2014 being the globe’s hottest year on record.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued an El Niño Watch on Thursday, indicating conditions are favorable for the climate phenomenon to develop in the next 6 months. “Neutral” conditions are likely through the summer, but by fall NOAA's joint forecast with the International Research Institute for Climate and Society puts the odds of an El Niño developing at more than 50 percent. It’s been nearly 48 months since the last El Niño formed.

The forecast comes with a caveat, though. El Niño forecasts in the spring generally come with greater uncertainty. Researchers refer to this as the “spring predictability barrier.” As Capital Weather Gang notes, the last El Niño watch issued in 2012 turned out to be a bust. That year saw El Niño conditions develop in the first half of fall but sputter by the end of October and dissipate completely by the end of the year.

The impact of climate change on El Niño is still an area of active research. There have been reports that the likelihood of monster El Niños will double in the next century as the climate system warms. Analysis of Pacific Ocean corals has shown that El Niños have also gotten stronger over the course of the 20th century, but they haven’t necessarily become more regular.


With all this being said, maybe booking a winter wedding next year won't be too bad after all. While it might be a little colder then the spring, summer or fall, according to the graphs, it has the chance, per the forecasts, to feel like two of those months anyway.

Let's look at all the pros from Glamour Magazines Kim Fusaro.

PRO: You’ll have an easier time finding vendors. Couples getting married in June should choose their vendors well in advance—otherwise they’re going to be stuck with other couples’ “leftovers,” generally the most expensive and/or least appealing options. If you plan on saying “I do” in December, however, when the wedding industry grinds to a halt, there should be lots of vendors just waiting to be hired. 

And.....

PRO: Pretty much everything should be cheaper. If you and your groom are the only ones vying for a vendor’s business, you might be able to get him to lower his price. It’s often better for a caterer, florist, or photographer to book a client for less than money than to spend the weekend not working.

And.......

PRO: Cozy details totally work. Plenty of wedding venues have fireplaces—but it would be silly to spark up a fireplace if you’re getting married in July. You also probably wouldn’t use a ton of candles at a daytime summer wedding, but they’re totally appropriate in the colder months—which means you might not even need flowers.

But.... even if you do get some snow, look at how pretty it could turn out to be anyway with this 9 picture photo spread below.

So before you scratch off next winter, remember El Nino, and the endless possibilities.
